REAL Chocolate Milk Refined Sugar Free!

I haven't met a kid yet that  doesn't love chocolate milk, but the bad part is most chocolate milk is made from low quality dairy from grain fed cows and full of added hormones as well as full of refined sugars. Next time you go to the store check the dairy section and read the label of a carton of chocolate milk and I think you will be surprised with how much sugar is in it. Even the healthier versions still have a large amount of sugar added. 

In the past my kids would mention to me that they would want some chocolate milk from the store, so I decided to make some at home with some high quality ingredients and much less sugar. We get raw grass fed milk from a local farmer so I use that when I make chocolate milk for them. If you can tolerate dairy, raw grass fed milk is full of beneficial nutrients such as CLA ( Conjugated Linoleic Acid), Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin A, D, and K2, and of course is rich in calcium and protein.  If you can't tolerate dairy, or are dairy free, you can sub out regular milk for my almond milk recipe which is delicious or you can always purchase store bought or use non sweetened coconut milk.  This chocolate milk is not going to be as sweet as your store bought, but is still sweet enough that the kids will enjoy!! You can also play around with the sweetness and add a little more or less maple syrup depending on your taste. Now that the fall months are here you can always warm this up in a saucepan after you make the chocolate milk and serve as hot cocoa. 

Servings: 4 8oz cups

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups Raw Grass Fed Milk ( you can sub goats milk or any unsweetened nondairy milk such as my almond milk recipe )
  • 3 TBSP Raw Cacao Powder
  • 1 1/2-2 TBSP Maple Syrup ( I like the Dark Grade)
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • Small Pinch of Sea salt

Directions:

  1. Add milk along with the rest of the ingredients into a blender and blend completely. It is normal to have some froth at the top from blending.
